Biography – Dr. Jean-Luc Bertrand

Early Life & Education

Dr. Jean-Luc Bertrand was born in Gap, Hautes-Alpes, France. He is the father of three children and has five grand-children.


He studied orthodontics in Lyon, France and USA.

Earned a Certificate in General Medical Psychology — establishing expertise in the management of stress.

Completed his Doctorate and Qualification in Orthodontics.

He later pursued further training in the USA, Canada, Japan, and Germany, gaining international insight and advanced specialization.

Professional Career in Orthodontics

Dr. Bertrand opened his first orthodontic clinic near Lyon, France, in 1982, followed by a second in 1993. His practices attracted patients from across France and abroad — including Belgium, Switzerland, and even Mumbai (India).


By 1993, his clinic became one of the largest orthodontic practices globally — a notable achievement in a field historically led by the United States.


He specialised in teeth occlusion that eliminates stress and anxiety and many sports champions came to his office to be treated.

Humanitarian Work – Generation Africa

In 2002, Dr. Bertrand sold his practice and relocated with his family to a remote Zulu village in South Africa, two hours outside Durban.

There, he collaborated with a local NGO supporting AIDS orphans and vulnerable children. Inspired by this mission, he founded the French NGO GENERATION AFRICA in 2003.


GENERATION AFRICA provides food, clothing, and most importantly education, aiming to raise empowered, self-sufficient adults who can give back to their communities. The organization has received support from global leaders, including:

Dr. Albertina Luthuli (ANC MP, daughter of Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Luthuli)

Jacques Séguéla, Bernard Laporte, Johnny Hallyday, and others

Leadership in Sports

A passionate advocate for physical wellness, Dr. Bertrand served as President and Owner of Rugby Club Toulonnais (RCT) from 1999–2000.

He has also competed in championships for basketball, gym, and sports bowls.

Stress & Mental Health Advocacy

A certified expert in medical psychology, Dr. Bertrand has lectured across Europe and several African countries and USA, including in:

USA, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium

Central Africa, Senegal, Algeria, South Africa

He is the author of four successful books, including Blue Genes, co-written with Dr. Paul Meier, M.D., published in the USA in 2005. His work explores the relationship between emotions, trauma, personality, and physical health.

Media, Film & Television

At age 32, Dr. Bertrand became CEO of a media production company backed by more than 200 shareholders from the media, finance, and hospitality sectors.



His company:

Produced 13 films, including The White Queen (with Catherine Deneuve) and The Man with the Golden Mask (with Jean Reno)

Created “The Hill of the 1000 Children” — the first French TV film to win an Emmy Award in Hollywood (1996)

Partnered with Mr. Piaget (watchmaker and jeweller) to co-own CANAL Alpha, a Swiss regional TV channel

Finance & Governance


From 2000 to 2006, Dr. Bertrand served on the Board of GAIPARE, the major life insurance division of AGF/Allianz.
